(原文:On time management by Terry Tao)(译文原稿来自这里

Finding Parking

April 1, 2011 Leave a comment

Finding a parking meter or parking garage for short term parking can be painful, here are some good websites I found, especially useful for parking in Boston.

  • Primo Spot is so far one of the best websites providing both on-street parking and garage parking information, but it only covers NYC, Boston and Seattle.
  • Boston Parking can calculate the parking rates by locations and hours
  • Parkopedia shows the types of parking on google map
  • Parking Carma gives list of garage parking with daily and hourly rates
  • Parking Spotter mainly lists daily or monthly parking information.
  • Parkwhiz (this lists more of daily parking)

About writing LaTex Formulas online and on WordPress

March 29, 2011 Leave a comment

Online LaTex Equation Editor (this is similar to Scientific Workplace)

Latex Lab Project (hosted at Google Code) and LaTex to PDF can help write LaTex codes and compile codes without installing MikTex system on your local computer.

Online instructions and forums:

The codes for the formula cov(X,Y)=\mathbb{E}\left( cov(X,Y|Z)\right) +cov(\mathbb{E}(X|Z),\mathbb{E}(Y|Z)) on WordPress.com are

$ latex cov(X,Y)=\mathbb{E}\left( cov(X,Y|Z)\right) +cov(\mathbb{E}(X|Z),\mathbb{E}(Y|Z)) $

where $ latex must stick together without a space. The reason that I separated $ from the word latex is that I want to avoid that formula from being displayed again so that purely codes are shown above.

My Favorite Vegas Shows

April 1, 2009 Leave a comment

What happened in Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas. Here are some of the shows I’d love to see more than once in Vegas when I got a chance to go there again. I also include some information on saving money for first-time visitors . Hopefully it can be helpful for some people.

  • The phantom of the opera at Venetian. This is absolutely the best show I saw in Vegas, and the best musical of all time!! I also went to see this musical in NYC, and I think the visual effect of this show in Vegas is even better than that of Broadway in NYC. We used the coupon codes from TravelZoo and saved lots of money. The discount on this website right now seems not that big compared to what I saw last year, but it definitely saves money.
  • O show at Bellagio. There are many similar shows in Vegas. Like this O show (the most expensive one), Mystere is also good. Le Rêve, Zumanity, etc. are other this kind of acrobatics shows.
  • Jubilee at Bally’s . Just click on the link, enough said, hehe.
  • Penn & Teller at Rio. One of the best magic shows in Vegas, and it’s also very funny.
  • Legends in Concert at Harrah’s. One of the best celebrity impersonator shows.

Here are some websites showing the crime statistics maps for the safe or unsafe areas in a city.

  • Crime rates for Boston shown on Google map. Of course, you may select any other city to view the crime statistics map.
  • Spot Crime lists the details of the crimes including what types of crimes and when they happened at where.
  • Family Watchdog has sex offenders’ addresses, names, and their photos on the web.
  • Crime Report is similar to the Spot Crime.
