Make a Donation to Help People Suffering from the Deadliest “China Earthquake 2008″

Everyone in the world was saddened by the huge aftermath and death toll of the devastating China Earthquake that hit SiChuan Province on 5/12/2008. So far, the online donation site of America Red Cross and other Red Cross Organizations haven’t started setting up a webpage to call for donations for helping victims during this earthquake, perhaps they need people to designate the donation to a specific disaster by making phone calls or mails. The website of China Red Cross has been down for quite a while probably due to extremely high internet traffic.

I just found that the Hong Kong Red Cross already started the fund raising for this earthquake. We’d really appreciate if anyone who browsed my blog can make a donation through Hong Kong Red Cross or any other organization. The following are steps for making a one-time donation to Hong Kong Red Cross:

Step 1: Log on Hong Kong Red Cross. Click on the red button “Donations” in the upper left conner.

Step 2: Click on “One-Off Donation” (the first one) displayed in the left column. Then, you can make an online donation through the donation webpage.

Here is the webpage for making donations through Canada Red Cross. Another non-profit organization that has very good financial accountability is Mercy Corps (U.S.), and you may also make a donation via its donation webpage.

Another great (reliable) charity organization in Hong Kong we can donate through is Hong Kong World Vision.

I’d prefer Hong Kong Red Cross rather than Canada Red Cross because Hong Kong Red Cross might offer more direct and efficient help in providing relief in such an emergency in China.

If you have concerns about whether the charity organization to which you make donations is really trustworthy or not (in the aspect of efficiency and donation’s amount allocated DIRECTLY to those who need the money), please visit the website Charity Navigator. There is a top-10 list where you can know more about those charity organizations. As far as I know from doing some research online, Hong Kong Red Cross and Mercy Corps are my best choices (it’s just my two cents).

Please help people who are suffering from the China’s worst earthquake in the past three decades!! A penny donated is a penny well spent.
